Top 10 Most Expensive Watches in the World


I went window shopping one day in a shopping mall in the UK, and I saw a 25,000-pound Rolex watch which was the most expensive Rolex wristwatch model and the most expensive watch at the luxury jewelry store within the mall. This was by far, the most expensive watch that I have actually seen with my two eyes. I was able to take a picture of it and was very happy at the time. Aside from Rolex, other expensive brands of watches at the store were Breitling, Bulova, and TAG Heuer. After a month, I did a search on the internet only to be surprised that the most expensive watch that I have physically seen (Rolex) was nothing compared to the List of Top 10 Most Expensive Watches in the World below. Notice that there are 4 watches (in the top 10 list) from the Patek Philippe, a Swiss watchmaker that manufactures the most expensive watches in the world.

1. Chopard 201-carat  -- $25 Million
The Chopard 201 Carat watch is the most expensive watch in the world. With a price tag of unbelievable $25 million, you can buy 60 Ferraris for this price. Also for this price you can buy 7 Beverly Hills mansions. This rare watch is made of 15-carat pink diamond, 12-carat blue diamond, 11-carat white, and 163 carats of smaller diamonds. It also consists of white gold and yellow gold. If you add up the total number of carats, it adds up to 201 carats, hence the name of the watch.

2. Patek Philippe’s Supercomplication -- $11 Million
Patek Philippe & Co. is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer since 1851. Located in Geneva, Switzerland, Patek Philippe makes the most expensive watches in the world. Patek Phillipe created the first wristwatch in 1868. They manufacture watches intended for very rich people, especially kings, queens, royalty, and business tycoons. Patek Philippe’s Supercomplication pocket watch was made of 18 carat gold. With a total production time of 4 years, it was completed in 1932.

3. Hublot Geneve Big Bang -- Price: $5 Million
The $5 million diamond watch from Hublot is covered with 1,282 diamonds. For a time, Hublot, a luxury Swiss watchmaker since 1980, put this watch on display as one of the most expensive watches in the world. This watch was made by 17 people and they finished it in 14 months.

4. Patek Philippe Calibre 89 -- $6 Million
Patek Philippe Calibre 89 was manufactured in 1989. It is composed of 1,728 components, 24 hands, 5 years of research and development, and took 4 years to make. The Calibre 89 includes 33 complications and was the most complicated watch in the world at the time. It has a total weight of 1.1 kilograms and made of 18 carat (75%) gold.

5. Louis Moinet Meteoris -- $4.6 Million price tag
The Meteoris watch was made by Swiss watchmaker Louis Moinet. It has a set of four tourbillion watches, each made of rare materials. The materials used in the manufacture of this watch are all from outer space, outside the planet Earth: meteorite from Mars, meteorite from the moon, Rosetta Stone ancient meteorite, and from an asteroid.  

6. Patek Philippe’s Platinum World Time -- $4 million
Patek Philippe’s Platinum World Time wristwatch became the world’s most expensive watch in 2002. Manufactured at the start of World War II in 1939, it was considered the most expensive wristwatch in the world at the time.

7. Piaget Emperador "Temple" -- Price: $3.3 million
The Piaget Emperador "Temple" has two hidden watches. The first watch has a set of 481 brilliant-cut diamonds, 207 baguette-cut diamonds, and an emerald-cut diamond on the top of the case. The second watch has a tourbillion and a 40-hour power reserve. The watch dial consists of Polynesian mother-of-pearl with 162 brilliant-cut diamonds and 11 baguette-cut diamonds. The bracelet is set with 350 baguette-cut diamonds.

8. Patek Philippe Model 2523 Heures Universelles (1953) -- $2.9 million
Manufactured in 1953, this Patek Philippe Model 2523 Heures Universelles watch is made of 18-karat yellow gold with a colourful background of the map of North America. The dial is made up of polychrome cloisonne enamel. This is a world time watch showing the times in cities all over the world.

9. Cartier Secret watch with Phoenix Decor -- $2.75 million
This unique design wristwatch from Cartier, the renowned French jeweler and watchmaker since 1847, is shaped like a phoenix that is made of 18-carat rhodium-plated white gold. The eyes of the phoenix are made of emeralds. The elegant watch is covered with 3,010 brilliant-cut diamonds with a total weight of 80 carats.

10. Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4 -- $2.7 million 
The Aeternitas Mega 4 from Swiss watchmaker Frank Muller is the most complicated wristwatch ever produced in the world. It contains 1,483 components, with its 36 complications, and 99 jewels (rubies). This watch is famously known as the “King of Complications.” Among its complications are: Westminster Carillon on 4 gong, Grande Sonnerie (Grand strike), Petite Sonnerie (Small strike), Flying Tourbillon, Breguet overcoil with Phillips curve, Tourbillon carriage, Perpetual Calendar, Display of the days, Display of the months, Retrograde Date, Secular Calendar, Display of the year up to 999 years, Astronomic moon, Equation of time, Two additional time-zones, Instantaneous minutes counter, and many more.
